Dumbuckhill Quarry in Dumbarton, Scotland required a free standing wall structure for the safe storage of aggregate, sand and other quarrying equipment on site.

The challenge

This project is part of the on-going works within the quarry, with other works being concrete pours using 200mm square edge broadform, which the customer has also hired.

After initial discussions with the customer S & A Shanks Ltd, it was agreed that our Frami Panel System was the best solution. S & A Shanks had previously hired the product and been extremely happy with the results and service.

Quarry Concrete Works

As part of ongoing works within the quarry, this project involved a major concrete pour to create a new storage wall. The client, S & A Shanks Ltd, required a reliable and efficient formwork solution.

Frami Panel System

Following initial discussions, our Frami Panel System was selected, having previously delivered excellent results for the customer. The design incorporated a hinged corner to suit the footprint of the pour, with panels assembled at 3m high by 2.7m wide and lifted into position using Frami lifting hooks and a telehandler.

Efficient Delivery On Site

The concrete pour was completed in a single day using a pump, despite challenging weather conditions. Struck and collected 17 days later, the project delivered a robust finished wall, leaving both S & A Shanks Ltd and Patersons Quarries Ltd highly satisfied with the outcome.

Our solution

The design required one hinged corner to allow for the footprint of the pour in order for the bays to be constructed. The system was built by four operatives and assembled in 3m high by 2.7m wide panels.

The assembled unit was lifted using 2 number Frami lifting hooks connected to 2 leg chain, which was attached to the forks on a telehandler.

This particular concrete pour started in early November, and was stripped and collected 17 days later, leaving a solid concrete wall for storing materials. The pour was completed in one day using a concrete pump; as the site location is very open it was affected by wind and rain which proved more challenging.

From the initial enquiry to close of business, the customer and client Patersons Quarries Ltd were delighted with our service.
